Acupressure Point for Jaw Pain

Treatment for lasting relief from jaw pain depends on its cause, which can include stress, teeth grinding and facial spasm. Though analysis by a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine is preferable, self-treatment of designated points may assist in pain reduction.
  1. Jaw Chariot

    • This point is also known as Stomach 6, because it is located along the energy meridian that passes through the stomach. To find this point, clench the back teeth and feel for a resulting bulge of the masseter muscle, between the upper and lower jaw.

    Ear Gate

    • The Ear Gate, or Triple Warmer 21, is found just in front of the ear opening, near the projection of cartilage above the lobe. When the mouth is opened, a hollow will form where this point lays.

    Palace of Hearing

    • Small Intestine 19 is located slightly below Triple Warmer 21. It is also found in the depression that forms when the jaw is opened.

    Reunion of Hearing

    • The second gall bladder point is just under Small Intestine 19. Keeping the mouth open, move the finger just below the opening of the ear, in alignment with the lobe.

    Wind Screen

    • Triple Warmer 17 can be found behind the earlobe, in the depression between the mastoid process and the mandible. It relieves pain from jaw disorders, toothache and facial paralysis.
