What are oil retention enemas?
Oil retention enemas are commonly used for constipation or as a way to soften the stool. They can also be used to expel intestinal parasites or to cleanse the colon before a colonoscopy or other medical procedure.
How to do an oil retention enema
1. Gather your supplies. You will need:
* A clean enema kit
* A container of olive oil or mineral oil
* A towel or plastic sheet to protect your clothing and furniture
* A comfortable place to lie down
2. Set up the enema kit. Follow the instructions that came with your kit.
3. Warm the oil. Place the container of oil in a warm water bath for a few minutes to warm it to body temperature.
4. Lubricate the enema tip. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the tip of the enema to help it insert more easily.
5. Insert the enema tip into your rectum. Lie on your left side with your knees drawn up to your chest. Gently insert the tip of the enema into your rectum.
6. Clamp the tube and remove the container of oil. Once the tip is in place, clamp the tube to stop the flow of oil. Remove the container of oil from the tubing.
7. Hold the oil in for the desired amount of time. The retention time will vary depending on the purpose of the enema. For constipation, you may want to hold the oil in for several hours. For parasite expulsion, you may only need to hold it in for a few minutes.
8. Release the oil and clean up. After the desired amount of time has elapsed, unclamp the tube and let the oil flow out of your rectum. Wipe your bottom clean with toilet paper or a damp cloth.
