What does AC mean on ultrasound?
AC stands for anterior cruciate ligament, which is a strong band of tissue that connects the shin bone (tibia) to the thigh bone (femur). It helps to keep the knee stable and prevents it from buckling or twisting.
On an ultrasound, the AC ligament can be seen as a thin, echogenic (white) line that runs from the front of the tibia to the back of the femur. It is located just deep to the skin and can be easily identified by a trained sonographer.
Ultrasound is a commonly used imaging technique for evaluating the AC ligament and other soft tissues of the knee. It is a non-invasive, painless, and relatively inexpensive way to diagnose and monitor a variety of knee injuries.
