Ear Stapling Procedures

The ear stapling procedure is loosely based on the ancient Eastern practice of acupuncture. The Chinese thought the ear resembled the fetus upside down, with the parts of the body aligned proportionately in the inner and outer ear. Auriculotherapy has been practiced for decades, since being discovered by Dr. Paul Nogier in 1957, and has become an increasing popular drug free weight loss method for men and women in recent years.
  1. Function

    • The ear stapling procedure is similar to ear piercing and uses tiny surgical stainless steel staples. The staples are placed on specific pressure points located in the cartilage of the ear. These strategically placed staples apply constant stimulation and send specific messages to the brain. Acupuncture has been shown to help suppress the appetite, but as of yet there are no conclusive studies showing that ear stapling has the same effect.

    Types

    • While there are over 700 pressure points in the ear, the most common ear stapling procedures are designed for weight loss, migraine relief and smoking cessation. Acupuncturists generally use the left ear for weight loss and the right ear for smoking cessation.

    Time Frame

    • The ear stapling procedure takes only a few minutes to perform and the staples are left in from 2 to 6 months, depending on the individual's need. The staples can be repositioned or taken out at any time. However, the longer the staples remain the higher the risk of infection and permanent scarring.

    Effects

    • The most common effects of the ear stapling procedure for weight loss are nausea, decreased appetite, increased thirst and a metallic taste in the mouth. As well as decreasing stress levels, improving depression and sleeping habits. The effects of the ear stapling procedures for smoking cessation are deceased nicotine, alcohol and drug cravings, decreased muscle stiffness, pain and relief from migraine headaches.

    Warning

    • The ear stapling procedure is not regulated in many states, nor do certain states require technicians to have any medical training. Please consult your physician prior to any procedure.
