Consider your budget. Take a look at your finances and figure out how much you are able to spend on this kind of treatment.

Examine credentials. Most states require that acupuncturists obtain licenses to provide care. Go online to see what the laws are in your state so you can know what kind of credentials to expect of your practitioner (see Resources below).

Consider experience. Generally speaking, a veteran is preferable to a newbie. If you're trying to choose an acupuncturist, ask him or her how long he or she has been in practice.
