When was psychoanalysis invented?

Psychoanalysis as a method of treating mental illness was first developed in the late 19th century by the Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud. Freud published his seminal work, "The Interpretation of Dreams" in 1899, which is widely regarded as the foundation of psychoanalysis. Through his clinical observations and theoretical explorations, Freud introduced key concepts such as the unconscious mind, transference, and free association, which have become central to the practice of psychoanalysis.
