What is the main focus of an opthamologist?

The main focus of an ophthalmologist is the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye diseases, injuries, and disorders. They are eye care professionals who specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the eyes, including the surrounding tissues and structures such as the eyelids, tear ducts, and muscles that control eye movement. Ophthalmologists receive extensive medical training and education, including completing medical school and residency programs, to become experts in eye care and visual health. They perform eye examinations, prescribe corrective lenses, diagnose and treat eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, and perform surgeries when necessary. Ophthalmologists also collaborate with other healthcare professionals to manage eye conditions related to systemic diseases.
