1
Change your diet. According to the Podell Medical Practice's website, the diet is often overlooked as a culprit of hypothyroidism. Poor nutrition can inhibit the thyroid's ability to make T4, as well as reduce it's ability to convert T4 into T3. Eating too much cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli or cauliflower can actually block the thyroid.

2
Review your medicines with your physician. Lithium is a common thyroid-blocker, as is the supplement L-Carnitine in high doses.
-
3
Increase your selenium intake. Selenium helps the body convert T4 in to T3, and may also "suppress anti-thyroid antibodies," according to Dr. Podell, who calls it the "sleeping giant" of natural thyroid remedies.

Increase your intake of natural foods. Include whole grains, seafood, nuts and seeds, in addition to a multi-vitamin containing Vitamin D and Zinc. Processed sugar, white flour and caffeine may also affect the thyroid; eliminating these substances from your diet may not only help your thyroid, but will also increase your overall health.
