Homemade Remedies for Cellulite

Cellulite is lumpy clusters of fat resembling cottage cheese that are deposited in pockets just below the surface of the skin. Cellulite affects women more than men, and most often appears around the abdomen, buttocks, thighs and hips. Although there is no cure, there are several simple steps you can take to effectively reduce the appearance and frequency of cellulite.
  1. Homemade Remedies for Cellulite

    • Reduce cellulite with a healthy diet. Eat high fiber foods that are low in saturated fats. Chlorophyll-rich foods and green tea also help to dissolve fat and prevent cellulite from forming. Limit salt intake and drink at least eight glasses of water each day.

Use a loofah or warm towel to vigorously massage the parts of your body where cellulite has appeared. Massage improves blood circulation, and encourages the circulatory and lymphatic systems to break down fatty tissue.

Essential oils such as grapefruit, lemongrass, spearmint, juniper and tangerine are often effective for eliminating cellulite by dissolving fat cells and fatty deposits. Gently massage the oils into your cellulite-prone areas. Place a heating pad over the spot for optimum penetration.

Prepare your own cellulite-dissolving concoction by mixing 1/2 cup of used coffee grounds with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Caffeine helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite by decreasing fat cells and constricting blood vessels, which is why it's the main ingredient in many expensive cellulite-reducing creams. Massage the mixture into the area affected by cellulite. Cover the spot in plastic wrap for a few minutes, and then shower off.

Increase your physical activity. Women with sedentary lifestyles have more cellulite as a result of hardening of the connective tissue, which produces cellulite and dimpling of the skin. Regular exercise increases circulation and burns off cellulite. Try jogging, tennis, swimming or yoga.

Take hot baths with sea salt. Sea salt baths help to detox impurities trapped within the body's tissues, improves circulation and improves the overall quality of the skin.

Avoid smoking. Smoking damages the connective tissue in your body, increasing the likelihood of cellulite.
