Home Cold Remedies
Use home cold remedies to treat your symptoms instead of running to the doctor for the sniffles. The suggestions below are safe for adults and children unless otherwise noted and only cost a few dollars each. You probably already have the ingredients needed in your cabinets!-
Drink Water

Drinking water not only keeps your body well hydrated during a cold, it also helps to thin out mucous making it easier to breathe.
Steam Inhalation

Place a large pot of water on the stove, heat until boiling rapidly and producing large amounts of steam. Hold your head over the pot of steaming water and breathe deeply through your nose.
Hot Tea

Drink a hot tea made with Chamomile, Echinacea, Goldenseal, Eucalyptus and honey to help break up mucous and soothe a sore throat.
Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar and 1 tsp. of honey together in an 8 ounce glass of water. Drink this mixture up to three times a day during your cold to help boost your immunity and fight off the infection.
Honey

Take 1 tsp. of natural honey by mouth three times a day to help soothe cough and sore throat.
Garlic

Garlic is a natural antibiotic and does wonders for a cold. Mix a small amount of crushed garlic with olive oil and allow it to sit for approximately 30 minutes. Before bed, rub the oil all over the bottom of your feet and cover with socks.
Nasal Irrigation

Mix ½ tsp. of non-iodized salt and ½ tsp. of baking soda in 8 ounces of warm water. Hold your head over the sink, using a nasal aspirator, breathe through your mouth while gently squeezing the saline mixture into each nostril. Cut this recipe in half for use on children.
