Purpose of Sweet Oil

A sweet oil is defined as any liquid edible oil derived from a plant. However, it most commonly consists of olive oil. It is used frequently as an ingredient in home remedies.
  1. Sunburn

    • Sweet oil can have a soothing effect on sunburned skin and lips. Cool some oil in the refrigerator and apply to the burned areas liberally to relieve stinging and burning.

    Ear Infection

    • To alleviate an ear infection, heat the oil first. Using a dropper, administer three to five drops into the ear and cover with a cotton ball. The heated oil helps the ear canals relax and drain naturally.

    Skin Moisturizer

    • Sweet oil is an emollient that can help moisturize your skin. Apply to the skin after showering to help your body retain it's natural moisture.

    Hair Treatment

    • If your hair is dry or sun-damaged, sweet oil can be used as a substitute for commercial hair treatments. Comb some warm oil through the hair and wrap your hair in a towel for half an hour, then shower and style your hair as normal.

    Cooking

    • Sweet oil is a processed, low-grade olive oil that is not designed for cooking. It lacks the rich flavor of good quality virgin olive oil.
