Tea Tree Oil Recipes for Dandruff
Tea tree oil is a powerful essential oil that cleanses and refreshes. It has antibiotic, detoxifying and stimulant properties that help in the treatment of such problems such as dandruff. Those with sensitive skin should use it sparingly. Because of its strength, tea tree should not be used in its pure form on the skin. It should always be diluted.-
About Tea Tree Oil
-
The healing powers of tea tree allow it to penetrate below the skin's surface to disinfect, treat wounds and help the body fight infection. It's commonly used as a cosmetic for the skin and for hair problems such as dandruff. Tea tree oil can also treat any build-up on the scalp from the use of styling products. Listed here are two tea tree oil shampoo recipes for treating dandruff.
Tea Tree Oil Shampoo Recipe
-
This recipe comes from Andre Langevin's tea tree oil recipes (see References). You will need water, liquid castile soap, light vegetable oil, pure tea tree oil, a cylinder-size container or an empty, clean shampoo bottle with a top.
Into your container or bottle, pour 1/4 cup of water, 1/2 cup liquid castile soap, 1/2 teaspoon of light vegetable oil and 1 1/2 tsp. of pure tea tree oil. Shake well to make sure all the ingredients are combined. When you're ready to use, wet the hair and massage the tea tree oil shampoo into your scalp. Massage using your finger tips, not your nails. Then wait five minutes before rinsing. Store the shampoo at room temperature.
Tea Tree Oil With Shampoo
-
For this recipe you will need organic tea tree oil and store-bought dandruff shampoo (you can also use regular shampoo). Pour a small amount of the dandruff shampoo into your palm and slowly add a few drops of tea tree oil to the dandruff shampoo. You don't want to dilute the shampoo, so add the drops one at a time to determine how much you'll use. Massage the tea tree oil and shampoo mix into your hair. Let the shampoo stay on for about five to seven minutes before rinsing.
With any of the tea tree oil shampoo recipes, you should experience a tingling sensation on your scalp. It's a signature of the oil.
Warning
-
Never swallow tea tree oil and never use it in its pure form on the skin. It's strong and toxic. Women who are pregnant should not use tea tree oil.
