Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) has been used in the treatment of enlarged prostate gland, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). There have been smaller studies conducted on saw palmetto and BPH and the National Centers for Complementary Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) states there is “not enough scientific evidence” to support the use of saw palmetto for treating BPH. Historical uses saw the Mayans using it as a tonic and Seminoles using it as an antiseptic.Studies have not shown any reduction in enlarged prostate with consumption of saw palmetto.

  Buy saw palmetto from a health store or purchase online.

  Select saw palmetto berry extract of either 320 mg at 85% or 95% potency or one of 640 mg at 45% potency. The potency refers to the percentage of fatty acids present in the extract.

  Take 1 to 2 capsules of the 320 mg or only 1 of the 640 mg. Do not exceed this dosage.

  Note any side effects. If you have any blood in your stool or urine, discontinue use and see your physician right away for assessment.
