How did the nurse recongnize odysseous?

In the Odyssey, the nurse Eurycleia does not recognize Odysseus. She is the one to confirm his return to Penelope by washing his feet and finding the distinctive scar. Odysseus is ultimately recognized by his old dog, Argos.
