How to Make Your Own Frankincense Essential Oil
Things You'll Need
- Large wide-neck jar with secure lid
- 300 milliliters safflower oil
- Mortar and pestle
- 24 tablespoons of frankincense resin. Less is optional, 8 tablespoons at the least.
- Spoon
- 8-by-8-inch square of muslin
- Glass bowl
- Dark glass bottle with stopper
- Label
- Marker

Pour the safflower oil into the jar, leaving room for the resin. Measure 8 tablespoons of frankincense and place it into the mortar and pestle. Use even pressure to lightly crack the resin.

Deposit the cracked resin into the oil and stir. Close the jar tightly and place on a sunny windowsill. Let sit for two days, shaking it well once every 12 hours.

Place the muslin over the mouth of the glass jar and strain the oil. To ensure the best scent concentration, wring out the solids into the oil. Repeat the process, adding more cracked resin and allowing it sit for two more days, if the scent is not potent enough.

Pour the finished oil into the dark glass bottle. Label it and store in a cool dry place for up to a year.
