Sweet Almond oil is commonly used as a base or carrier oil for aromatherapy massage, but sweet almond oil also has a few other helpful uses. Scientifically known as Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis, the sweet almond itself is high in nutrition, and only the seed itself is edible.

    • Sweet almond oil can be used by adults as an alternative laxative. A safe oral intake of only a maximum of 30 milliliters a day of sweet almond oil, will help regulate blocked bowels.

    Benefits for Skin

    • Sweet almond oil is often used as a skin softener and/or moisturizer, and benefits all skin types as it contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E, and it is high in mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids.

    Sweet Almond Oil and Cholesterol

    • Using sweet almond oil instead of animal fat based oils can help in reducing high cholesterol levels, due to its high vitamin E and its mono unsaturated fat content.

    Psoriasis

    • Rubbed externally on the affected area, sweet almond oil has been known to relieve symptoms of psoriasis and inflammations of the skin.

    Origin

    • Sweet almond oil, pale yellow in color, is extracted and made from the dry kernel of the sweet almond, as well as compressed sweet almonds.

    Shelf Life

    • This popular and widely used oil can be stored for up to 6 months to a year, if kept out of direct sunlight and stored in a cool area.
