Choose your essential oil depending on your personal preferences and what you want the potpourri to do. Some essential oils such as lavender, chamomile and rose petals are great for creating a soothing and relaxing environment. Citrus-based essential oils such as lemon grass or citrus flowers and various mint essential oils are used for stimulation and are great to create energetic environments. Floral mixtures are probably the best since potpourris generally have a floral scent.

Put your potpourri into a closed container with a good lid, such as a Tupperware container.

Dribble a few drops of your chosen essential oil or a mixture of a few essential oils into your potpourris. This works best if your potpourri is made up of dried herbs and flowers.

Place the lid onto your container and shake the container well so the essential oils are well distributed.

Leave the lid onto the container for a few days so the scent is fully immersed with your potpourri.
