How to Make Your Own Lavender Wrap Aromatherapy Microwaveable Heat Pack

Aromatherapy often uses the scent of lavender, an herb that is recognized for its calming and relaxing qualities on the human body. Add the essence of lavender in the form of oil rather than dried herbs to a microwavable heat pack. The heat of the pack works in conjunction with the lavender to soothe sore muscles and stretch tightening tissues around the spine, neck and head. Use beans to fill the heat pack for a longer lasting heat pack.

Things You'll Need

Cross the muslin over itself lengthwise and secure along the open sides with straight pins. Sew two of the sides together leaving one side open. Add the dried beans to the bag, filling until the desired firmness of the wrap is reached. Drop in three or four drops of the lavender oil into the bag. Sew the remaining side together.

Fold the cotton fabric over in the same manner as the muslin. Pin the open sides with straight pins and sew together one side. Leave one side of the cotton bag open. Place the muslin bag filled with beans inside the cotton fabric. Pin the cotton material together and sew the final side completing the outer bag.

Heat the pack by placing in the microwave and cooking on high for one minute. Remove the heat pack and massage the beans around to distribute the heat. Return to the microwave if the heat pack is not the desired temperature, and continue heating on high at 10-second intervals. Store the heat pack in the freezer when not in use to extend the life of the beans and lavender oil. Add more lavender to the heat pack by adding drops of the oil directly to the bag.
