How to Dilute Lavendar Essential Oil

A camphor-like and floral-smelling oil, essential oil of lavender is highly concentrated by itself. This essential oil must never be applied directly to the skin when it is in its concentrated form, but it can be thinned out, or diluted, with ease. Diluted essential oil of lavender can be used in homemade soaps, lotions and massage oils.

• 2 oz. essential oil of lavender
• 6 oz. carrier oil
• 8 oz. bottle with lid

  Add the essential oil of lavender to the larger, empty bottle.

  Add the carrier oil to the bottle containing the 2 oz. of lavender essential oil. Carrier oils vary immensely in variety such as coconut, mango, apricot, palm kernel, hemp and a wide range of others. Each carrier oil differs in how it smells, looks and whether or not it is a heavy or a dry oil. If you want to thin out your lavender essential oil into a massage oil, a dry oil like coconut is useful.

  Put the lid on the bottle and shake it vigorously for a minute. This blends the carrier oil of your choice with the lavender essential oil.
