How to Compare Vaporizers

Vaporizers are used for dispersing the aroma of essential oils into the atmosphere. Heat applied to the oil, either using water or air, causes evaporation. Vaporizers are available in a wide range of prices and styles.
  1. Conduction Vaporizers

    • An oil burner using a tea light to heat the essential oil placed in a bowl of water above it is the simplest form of conduction vaporizer. These are inexpensive and widely available. The disadvantage of this type of vaporizer is the uneven distribution of heat through the oil. The essential oil evaporates too slowly to be effective.

    Convection Vaporizers

    • Convection vaporizers use heated, circulated air to diffuse the oil or herb. The advantage of these vaporizers is the essential oil is heated uniformly, ensuring total evaporation. This type of vaporizer is more expensive as the air temperature is thermostatically controlled to provide a longer lasting aroma.

    Vaporizers For Inhalation

    • In aromatherapy it is sometimes useful to inhale oils, especially when treating a respiratory infection. Glass nebulizers are recommended for this purpose as they ionize the particles and diffuse them efficiently, ensuring maximum therapeutic effect.
