Ayurvedic Treatments for Acne

Acne has been around for centuries; just about every teenager is tormented by it, as it's often associated with the hormonal changes that occur during puberty. Often just a few pimples will appear, but sometimes large ones can burst and leave scars. While there are many creams and ointments, Ayurvedic treatments for acne are all-natural. The word comes from India, and is a blending of the words ayus, life and veda, knowledge. The idea is to blend medical knowledge and healing with lifestyle changes to cure a disease.
  1. Buttermilk

    • Simply washing your face three to four times daily with buttermilk can keep your face healthy and shiny, and helps to clear up any pimples you have.

    Indian Plum

    • Also called the jambula fruit, you take one of the seeds, put it in water and then rub it so that it becomes well-moistened. After that, rub it over your face where you have pimples, and they will gradually clear up.

    Pumpkins

    • While not always in season, a facial made of mashed pumpkin can be very effective. Simply leave the mashed pumpkin spread across your face for about 15 to 20 minutes, then wipe off, wash your face thoroughly, and then put mustard or coconut oil on your skin. By doing this every day for a week, you can gradually clear up all of your acne.

    Oranges

    • This is another treatment to try when the fruit is in season. Just take the orange peel and rub it across your face, so that the pimples get completely drenched in the juice. Do this three to four times a day, and it will eventually reduce your acne.

    Nutmeg and Sandalwood

    • This Ayurvedic treatment for acne takes a bit more preparation than some. First, get some water of the red sandalwood, and then break up some nutmeg and mash it into the water. After that, wash your face with the mixture and it will clear your skin and keep it soft and lustrous.

    Improving Diet

    • Part of the Ayurvedic treatment for acne is eating right, and not just the right foods, but eating them the right way. First, eat your food when it's warm, and don't eat until your previous meal is completely digested. Don't improperly mix foods; for example, milk and/or a fruit salad shouldn't be eaten with fish, and don't eat too slowly or too fast. It's important to chew your food as much as possible. Cut down on fast food, junk food and fat, and try to eat more leafy vegetables. Finally, drink plenty of water and juice; fruit juices like grape and lemon are best.
