Is E. coli resistant to vancomycin?

Escherichia coli is typically not resistant to Vancomycin. Vancomycin is an antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, including those caused by certain strains of E. coli. However, some strains of E. coli have developed resistance to vancomycin, making it ineffective against those particular strains.

The emergence of vancomycin-resistant E. coli (VRE) is a significant concern in healthcare settings, as it can lead to difficult-to-treat infections. As a result, judicious use of vancomycin and effective infection control practices are crucial to prevent the development and spread of vancomycin resistance in E. coli and other bacteria.
