Can you swallow a pill into your lungs?
It is not possible to intentionally swallow a pill into your lungs. The trachea, which leads to the lungs, is located behind the esophagus, which leads to the stomach. When you swallow, the epiglottis, a small flap of cartilage, closes over the trachea to prevent food or drink from entering the lungs. For someone to swallow a pill into their lungs, they must bypass this epiglottis valve, which cannot occur naturally. However, someone can swallow a pill into their windpipe, which can be dangerous and require medical attention.
