How does artificial respiration given to?

Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation:

1. Check the Person's Responsiveness: Tap the person's shoulder and call out their name "Are you okay?"

2. Positioning: Place the person on their back; make sure the airway is clear.

3. Head Tilt and Chin Lift: Tilt the person's head back slightly, and lift their chin to open the airway.

4. Close Their Nose and Mouth: Pinch the person's nose closed with your fingers. Cover their mouth completely with your mouth.

5. Give Rescues Breaths: Give two slow breaths, each lasting about one second, allowing for their chest to rise and fall fully between breaths. Watch for the chest to rise. Ensure an airtight seal to prevent air from escaping.

6. Check Pulse and Breathing: Check the person's pulse and breathing after every 30 compressions. If no pulse or breathing resumes, continue with compressions and breaths.

Chest compressions:

1. Hand Positioning: Place the heel of one hand on the person's sternum, between the nipples. Place your other hand over your first hand, interlocking your fingers.

2. Push Compression: Using straight arms and locked elbows, press down on the person's sternum 3.8-5 cm (about 1.5 -2 inches) at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute.

3. Depth and Speed: Keep your elbows locked, and apply steady pressure on the compressions. Allow the chest to fully recoil between compressions.

Combined CPR (mouth-to-mouth with chest compressions):

1. Compression-to-Breath Ratios: For every 30 compressions, provide 2 rescue breaths.

2. Continuous Cycle: Continue alternating between 30 compressions and 2 rescue breaths until professional help arrives, an automated external defibrillator (AED) is used, or the person shows signs of life (breathing, coughing).
