What organs are in your breathing system?

Organs in the Breathing System:

1. Nose:

- Where air enters the body

- Filters, warms, and moistens inhaled air

2. Pharynx (Throat):

- A muscular tube that connects the nasal passages to the larynx

- Passageway for air, food, and liquids

3. Larynx (Voice Box):

- Contains vocal cords that produce sound

- Protects the trachea during swallowing

4. Trachea (Windpipe):

- A flexible tube that carries air from the larynx to the lungs

- Lined with tiny hairs (cilia) that trap particles and mucus

5. Bronchi:

- Primary branches of the trachea that enter each lung

6. Lungs:

- Two large, spongy organs responsible for gas exchange

- Contain millions of tiny air sacs called alveoli where oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged

7. Alveoli:

- Tiny, balloon-like structures in the lungs where gas exchange occurs

- Lined with capillaries, tiny blood vessels where oxygen diffuses into the bloodstream while carbon dioxide moves out

8. Diaphragm:

- A dome-shaped muscle located beneath the lungs

- Primary muscle responsible for breathing

9. Intercostal Muscles:

- Located between the ribs

- Assist in breathing by expanding and contracting the chest cavity
