- Partial Pressure: Partial pressure is the amount of pressure exerted by a specific gas within a gas mixture. The driving force for oxygen movement from the air into the blood is the difference in the partial pressure of oxygen between the alveoli and the blood in the capillaries. This pressure gradient also promotes oxygen diffusion.
These factors collectively contribute to the rapid and efficient absorption of oxygen in the lungs, allowing for the oxygenation of blood before being pumped to various tissues in the body.
