What does wheezing feel like?

Wheezing is a whistling sound that occurs when air moves through narrowed airways in the lungs. It can be a sign of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other respiratory problems. Wheezing can feel like:

- A whistling or squeaking sound when you breathe

- A feeling of tightness or constriction in your chest

- Difficulty breathing, especially when you exhale

- A need to take deep breaths to catch your breath

- Coughing or shortness of breath

- Wheezing can range from mild to severe. In some cases, it can be a medical emergency. If you experience wheezing, especially if it is accompanied by other symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath, it is important to see a doctor right away.
