Lay the sheet of plain rice paper over the waxed paper. The waxed paper protects your rice paper and your counter top. Choose a sheet of rice paper in a shape and size that corresponds with the top of the cake. They are sold in various shapes and sizes in bakery and culinary supply stores.

    • 3

Fill a 4-ounce dish with ice water. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar dust to the other dish, using a dish for each different color.

    • 4

Place the stencil carefully on the surface of the rice paper. Arrange the stencil where you want the design to be.

    • 5

Dip the tip of the watercolor brush into the ice water. Dip the brush into the sugar dust of your choice.

    • 6

Dab the dust-covered brush lightly inside the stenciled area on the rice paper. Dip it in the water and then the dust again to add more color. Do this until the stencil is filled in with your choice of color.
