Chiropractics & Social Security Disability

Social Security provides disability benefits for some people who can't work due to a medical condition or disability. People with certain disabilities may benefit from chiropractic treatment.

Proving Disability

• When you apply for Social Security disability, you must prove to the Social Security Administration that you are disabled. You can provide letters and records from any health care professionals who have treated you for your condition, including chiropractors. The Social Security Administration may also ask you to undergo an examination by a medical doctor.

Treatment

• When you receive Social Security disability, you can receive treatment for your condition from the health care professionals of your choice, including a chiropractor. You can use your disability payments to pay for chiropractic treatment if you like.

Medicare

• After you have qualified for Social Security disability for two years, you will also qualify for Medicare. Medicare covers some chiropractic services, including spinal manipulation and the use of manual devices in the treatment of spinal problems.
