What is penumothoracs?

A pneumothorax is a collapsed lung. It occurs when air or gas builds up in the pleural space, the area between the lung and the chest wall. This can cause the lung to collapse and make it difficult to breathe.

Pneumothoraces can be caused by a variety of things, including:

* Trauma, such as a car accident or a stab wound

* Medical procedures, such as surgery or the insertion of a chest tube

* Underlying lung conditions, such as emphysema or asthma

Symptoms of a pneumothorax can include:

* Shortness of breath

* Chest pain

* Cough

* Rapid heart rate

* Blue-tinged skin

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.

Treatment for a pneumothorax depends on the severity of the condition. In some cases, a simple needle aspiration may be enough to remove the air or gas from the pleural space. In other cases, surgery may be necessary.
