What is a dye marker?

A dye marker, also known as a paintball marker or paintball gun, is a device designed to shoot small, round, gelatin-filled capsules called paintballs. These capsules are filled with water-soluble dye and break upon impact, splattering the target with coloured liquid. Dye markers are used primarily for recreational activities such as paintball sports and target shooting.

Dye markers operate using compressed air or carbon dioxide (CO2) as a propellant to propel the paintballs from the marker's barrel. The compressed gas is stored in a cylinder attached to the marker and is released through a valve when the trigger is pulled. This sudden release of gas creates pressure behind the paintball, pushing it out of the barrel at a high velocity.

Dye markers come in various types and designs, ranging from simple, entry-level markers suitable for beginners to advanced, tournament-grade markers preferred by experienced players. Some common types of dye markers include:

- Pump-action markers: These markers require manual pumping of the foregrip before each shot to pressurise the chamber and fire the paintball.

- Semi-automatic markers: These markers fire a single paintball each time the trigger is pulled and require no manual pumping.

- Fully-automatic markers: These markers can fire multiple paintballs in rapid succession while the trigger is held down.

- Electronic markers: These markers use electronic components, such as microprocessors and sensors, to enhance performance and allow for various firing modes and settings.

- Mechanical markers: These markers rely on mechanical mechanisms to operate and do not have electronic components.

Dye markers are highly customisable, allowing users to upgrade and modify various components to improve their performance, accuracy, and overall handling. This customisation can include changing barrels, grips, triggers, and other accessories.
