How to Identify Purple Crystals

Crystals from around the world are believed to have many healing, psychic and meditative powers. Purple crystals such as amethyst, charoite, sugilite and creedite have many properties to assist individuals with an array of physical, psychological and emotional issues in their daily lives. Crystal owners and collectors may find the purple stones to be especially beautiful additions to their displays.       Examine the outside of the purple stone. A polished amethyst is smooth on the outside with rough lavender, white and purple particles inside. It is a member of the quartz family and can be found all around the world. It is a very common and inexpensive crystal, historically used by royalty and is widely used in different jewelry settings. It is believed to assist individuals with addictive tendencies and is thought to have calming and mentally-stabilizing abilities.

      Look at the color of the gem. Unlike other purple gems, a sugilite stone, also know as purple passion, has more red and pink colors than blue hues. It comes in other colors also but the richest and most popular is a rich purple. It is found in large masses and the texture and general feel is very similar to that of turquoise. Discovered in 1944, it is also a fairly recent acquisition in the gem world and is used for protection and to deter negativity and hostility.

      Determine the origin of the stone. The charoite mineral can only be found in one location and that is in the mountains along the Chary River near Aldan, Russia. The stones also have light-reflecting lines and are very translucent. Charoite, discovered in 1978, is a relatively new purple gem in the crystal world. The properties of this crystal are so detailed and distinct that it actually appears to be man-made. This particular crystal is believed to assist individuals with fear issues and can be even more powerful if combined with the use of amethysts.

      Examine the formation of the crystals. Creedite, discovered in the United States and Mexico, can be found in large groupings of crystals clustered together in a larger formation. Creedite is usually a shade of white but can also be found in beautiful hues of purple and lavender. The crystals are known for their cleansing and detoxifying powers and are also known as a power for the third chakra eye.
