Why Put Crystals in Water?
Crystals provide a beautiful decoration medium, and may help to change the atmosphere in a room. Many people wear crystal jewelry and enjoy the metaphysical properties crystals have to change lives and situations. Sometimes using crystals involves placing them in water for a period of time. Crystal practitioners and users do this for several different reasons.-
Cleansing Crystals
-
People cleanse many crystals by placing them in running warm water. The energy of the flowing water picks up negative energies and removes them from the crystal. This renews the healing power of the crystal and allows it to work more efficiently. Most crystals enjoy this once a month. Following a washing, you may recharge your crystal. Some crystals, such as amazonite, carnelian and emeralds, recharge in the sun. Moonstone, moss agates and pink tourmaline recharge in moonlight. Check with a crystal practitioner for the preferred method to recharge your crystal.
Crystal Waters
-
Charged crystal waters offer an easy way to receive the energy of a crystal internally or topically. Place a tumbled or polished crystal in a glass jar or bowl of spring or mineral water and allow it to sit overnight. Remove the crystal from the water with a spoon and dry the crystal. The water may be stored for later use, placed in a mister bottle or consumed. Rock crystal, amethyst, citrine and agates work well for this purpose. Carnelian water, for example, works well when sprayed on the face and hair to recharge and refresh the body.
Some stones, especially in their raw form, can produce a toxic substance if placed in water, so verify your stone is safe for this use. Crystal practitioners and many crystal healing books provide this information.
Crystal Elixirs
-
Crystal elixirs supercharge water using the sun or moon, magnetic frequencies and the energy of the crystals. Place the tumbled or polished crystal in a clear glass bowl of spring water and set in the morning sun with rock crystals around the bowl set at each of the four main compass points. Leave the water in the sun for two to three hours. Combinations of stones produce specific healing properties. For example, rock crystal, amethyst and citrine make a powerful energy cleanser.
As noted in Section 2, some crystals should not be placed in water. However, you may use an indirect charging method by placing the crystal inside a dry glass jar and then placing the sealed jar in the bowl of spring water. Place in the sun as you would for other crystal elixirs.
Avoid Water
-
Some crystals should never be used to directly charge water. These include cinnabar (contains mercury), adamite and orpiment (contain arsenic), actinolite and pietersite (contain asbestos), galena (contains lead), lapis, marcasite, ulexite, pyrites and stibnite. Crystals such as sodalite, turquoise and sapphires contain aluminum. Crystals such as malachite, azurite and gem silica contain copper. Check for the safety of any crystal prior to using it to charge water. Tumbled and polished crystals allow for safer use than raw stones.
