How to Cleanse Crystal Quartz

In alternative medicine and religious circles, crystal quartz is said to be a stone that is good for holding and transmitting energy. This extends to the various types of quartz, whether plain white quartz, rose quartz, amethyst and others. However, it's often a good idea to cleans your stone of outside influences and energies that you didn't put into it. This process is a combination of physical and spiritual cleansing, and the process can be adapted for what works best for each practitioner.

  Scrub the physical detritus gently off of the crystal quartz. Use a soft brush or a cloth to remove dust, dirt and other unwanted debris from the stone.

  Place the quartz in a salt bath. Salt is believed to draw out negative energy and to leave the stone in a state of neutrality like a battery waiting for a new charge. However, some crystal quartz stones are vulnerable to salt and it eats them away. In this case use a smudge rather than a salt bath.

  Smudge your crystal. Use herbs like sage, or burn incense and let the quartz sit in the flow of smoke. The herbs or smoke will also serve the purpose of pulling out unwanted, negative energy from the quartz stone so that you can once again use it without coping with negative energy.
