Ammolite Healing

Although ammolite is technically a fossil, it is also a crystal used in healing. Found raw, ammolite is not always very vibrant, but when polished and put into jewelry the colors of this fossil will mesmerize. It is a rare stone found only under certain conditions. In a few places, ammonites, squid-like cephalopods of the Cretaceous period, became buried in bentonite sediment as ancient seas dried up, which preserved the shells for a special process of fossilization.
  1. Colors

    • Ammolite's ability to mesmerize with its colors is one of the reasons it is used in Feng Shui, where it is called the "Seven Color Prosperity Stone." Its colors--red, orange, green, yellow and blue--represent energy, creativity, wisdom, wealth and peace, respectively. It is used to balance the flow of energy in the body and remove toxic influences.

    Effects

    • Use ammolite for a long life and well-being. It can help battle depression. Its colors bring peace of mind and joy. It also brings structure and clarity to thinking and perception.

    Features

    • Ammolite is a rare stone found in Canada and Morocco. Although this gemstone looks like a relative of the opal, it is chemically quite different. Ammolite may have other crystals formed in it, as with many fossils. These other crystals can be aragonite, calcite and even pyrite (fool's gold). Ammolite is a soft stone that can deteriorate if it does not receive careful handling.

    Functions

    • Because of its natural seashell shape, ammolite represents the full circle. It is an intuitive stone and is great for use in metaphysics as it can help enhance the third eye.

    Tradition

    • Native Americans believe ammolite to be a lucky stone. It is sometimes called the Buffalo Stone and is used in medicine bundles. According to legend, the discovery of the stone saved a Blackfoot tribe from hunger by attracting a herd of buffalo into the area.
