Norfloxacin belongs to a class of medications called fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria. Norfloxacin is used to treat both acute and chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by susceptible bacteria. These infections may include pyelonephritis (a kidney infection), cystitis (a bladder infection), and urethritis (an infection of the urethra). It is also sometimes used to treat sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as gonorrhea and chlamydia. Norfloxacin may be used alone or with other medications.
