Instructions for Ear Wax Candles

Ear candling, also known as ear coning, is the natural process of removing excess ear wax and debris from inside the ears using a special, heated ear wax candle. The ear candling process is often offered as a service at many day spas and salons as a means of both ridding the ear of wax and as a relaxation technique. Though ear candling is offered at salons and performed by estheticians, it can easily be done at home, with the help of a partner, for half the cost.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay down on your side and have your partner clear your ear of any loose hair. Secure any loose hair away from your ear with a clip.

    • 2

Puncture a hole in the paper plate that is the approximate diameter of the ear wax candle. Make sure that the candle fits securely into the hole.

    • 3

Insert the smaller, tapered end of the candle into the hole close to the inside of the ear canal. Your partner must securely hold the candle in position from this point on in the process.

    • 4

Use a match or lighter to light the far, large end of the ear wax candle.

    • 5

Allow the candle to burn until it measures approximately 4 to 6 inches in length from the recipient's ear.

    • 6

Remove the candle and extinguish it by placing the burning end into a small bowl of water.

    • 7

Repeat the process for the other ear.
