What do you when your ear is itching a lot?
Here are some suggestions for what you can do when your ear is itching a lot:
1. Don't scratch. Scratching can damage the skin in your ear and make the itching worse.
2. Clean your ear. Use a cotton swab dipped in warm water to gently clean the inside of your ear. Be careful not to go too deep.
3. Apply a warm compress. Putting a warm compress on your ear can help to reduce inflammation and itching. You can use a heating pad set on low or a towel soaked in warm water. Do not use too much heat because this could worsen the inflammation in your ear.
4. Use over-the-counter ear drops. There are a number of over-the-counter ear drops available that can help to relieve itching. Look for ear drops that contain antihistamines or corticosteroids.
5. See a doctor. If your ear is itching severely or does not improve with home treatment, see a doctor. They may be able to prescribe stronger medication or identify an underlying condition that is causing the itching.
Other tips that may help relieve ear itching include:
- Applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the inside of your ear
- Taking an antihistamine medication to reduce inflammation
- Avoiding exposure to allergens and irritants that may trigger the itching
- Using earplugs to protect your ears from water and wind exposure when the itching is particularly severe.
