What is an otolaryngoscope?

An otolaryngoscope is a medical instrument used by otolaryngologists (ear, nose, and throat doctors) to examine the ear, nose, and throat. It consists of a light source, a magnifying lens, and a speculum (a small, spoon-shaped instrument) that is used to gently spread apart the tissues of the ear, nose, or throat. The otolaryngoscope allows the doctor to visualize and assess any abnormalities in these areas, including infections, growths, or blockages. It is also used to perform certain procedures such as removing foreign objects, administering medication, or taking biopsies.
