Cures for Being Hung Over

You know you have a hangover when the nausea, aches, pains and headache hit. Of course, the obvious way to avoid a hangover is to avoid alcohol. However, over-celebrating happens and knowing what to do to ease the pain is essential. A variety of remedies can be applied while you are drinking and some can be done the day after to ease the pain caused by hangovers.
  1. Eating

    • Eating while you drink will help coat your gastrointestinal tract, according to the Forbes website. You should eat before, during and after you drink to help eliminate the chances of a hangover.

    Vitamin B Complex

    • Take 50 to 75 mg of vitamin B complex before you go to bed and immediately after you wake up. Vitamin B aids in the carbohydrate metabolizing process and dilates blood vessels. This vitamin also helps restore your energy level.

    Sports Drinks

    • Sports drinks, such as Gatorade or Powerade, replenish nutrients your body loses when drinking alcohol. Your body breaks down the alcohol by pumping out lactic acid and electrolytes. Sports drinks replenish these nutrients and give you needed energy.

    Banana Milkshake

    • Make yourself a banana milkshake to help ease the pain of a hangover. Blend one banana and 2 tbsp. honey in a blender. Add milk until it reaches a milkshake consistency. The banana calms the stomach and the honey helps builds up depleted sugar levels. The milk will rehydrate your system and soothe the stomach. While drinking, important levels of potassium, magnesium and electrolytes are depleted, all in which bananas are rich.

    Tomato Juice

    • Drink tomato juice to help ease the pain of a hangover, as stated by the Health911 website. Tomato juice contains fructose, a type of sugar that helps your body metabolize alcohol more quickly. Bloody Marys, which are made with tomato juice, are a known hangover remedy.

    Peppermint

    • Purchase some peppermint herb tea or tea leaves at your local grocery store. Make the tea and drink the recommended dosage or chew on peppermint leaves. Carminative is a substance in peppermint that removes gas from the intestines and stomach. If the tea comes in a dry herb form, pour one cup of boiling water over 2 tsp. of the dried peppermint herb. Cover and steep for 15 minutes. After draining, drink as quickly as possible.

    Rest

    • Get plenty of rest to help cure a hangover, according to the Medline Plus website. Most hangovers are gone in 24 hours. The only real "cure" for a hangover is to detoxify your body by getting plenty of rest and replenishing your dehydrated body with plenty of liquids such as water or sports drinks.
