How to Use Ginger to Cleanse the Inside of the Body

Healers in Asia and India have been using ginger to treat medical problems for thousands of years, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The volatile oils are known to aid in digestion and treat nausea and vomiting. People around the world believe ginger can help treat heart conditions, arthritis and headaches. Laboratory studies show ginger may be a helpful anticancer agent, and may help lower cholesterol. Some people use it as part of a detoxifying routine to cleanse the body and flush out toxins. To avoid triggering an allergic reaction, start out with small amounts and gradually build up your tolerance to ginger.

Instructions

  1. Ginger Tea

    • 1

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan on the stove. Grate 1 to 2 Tbsp. of fresh ginger and add to the boiling water.

    • 2

Reduce the heat to medium and simmer the ginger water for about four minutes. Put a lid on the saucepan to keep the water from evaporating.

    • 3

Place any kind of teabag into the water, replace the lid, let it steep for five minutes, then remove the teabag. Add honey to taste, if desired. Drink this tea every day as a body cleanse.

    Detoxifying Ginger Bath

    • 4

Fill a bathtub with the hottest water you can stand. Add 1 cup of Epsom salt and 1/8 cup of freshly grated ginger or ginger in powder form.

    • 5

Brush all of your skin with a vegetable brush before entering the bathtub. Brush the skin towards the heart. Skin brushing aids in releasing toxins through the body.

    • 6

Get into the bathtub and soak for 30 minutes. Brush your skin in a circular motion with the vegetable brush as you're soaking in the tub. Drink water while you're in the tub because the ginger may make you sweat.

    • 7

Dry your body with a clean towel, rubbing the skin vigorously while you're drying off. Rub it until the skin turns very red. Do not apply any lotions, creams or powder.

    • 8

Wrap yourself up in a large towel or robe and go to bed. You will probably sweat during the night and might find that you need to change into another towel or robe. As you're sweating, your body is flushing out impurities through the pores in the skin.
