Colonix Ingredients

Colonix is a colon-cleansing program manufactured by alternative medicine company Dr. Natura. Colonix includes three parts: Colonix Intestinal Cleanser, a fiber supplement; Paranil, a liver and colon purifying complex; and KleriTea, a tea that promotes regularity and detoxification. Altogether, Colonix -- which Dr. Natura claims cleans out the colon -- contains over 40 vegetarian-friendly ingredients. There are no studies that prove Colonix works; it is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

  1. How It Works

    • The Colonix system -- which first hit the market in 1998 -- claims to clean out the colon with its three products. The Colonix Intestinal Cleanser contains fiber that creates a large jelly-like mass in the colon that absorbs and transports toxins out. The manufacturer claims that Paranil's blend of detoxifying herbs will help Colonix clean out the kidneys and liver. Dr. Natura says KleriTea catalyzes bowel movements, allowing the toxins all the way out of the body.

    Colonix Intestinal Cleanser Ingredients

    • Colonix Intestinal Cleanser, a fiber supplement, is comprised of 15 main ingredients to aid in the cleansing of your colon. The main ingredient is psyllium husk; 95-percent-grade psyllium from India makes up 73 percent of this formulation. Common vitamin ingredients like flax seed and slippery elm bark are also found in Colonix. Other ingredients include fennel seed, papaya, grapefruit pectin, marshmellow root, rhubarb root, guar gum, alfalfa, peppermint leaf, uva ursi leaf, stevia leaf extract, licorice root and aloe vera. The product also lists silica, maltodextrin and "natural banana flavor" as "other" ingredients on the bottom of its label.

    Paranil Ingredients

    • Paranil contains a number of common health-food ingredients, including black walnut hulls, fenugreek seed, pumpkin seed oil, garlic bulb and turmeric root. Paranil is also composed of milk thistle seed extract, grapefruit seed extract, clove bud, Pau d'Arco bark, myrrh gum, hyssop, gentian root, elecampane root, prickly ash bark, yellow dock root, peppermint leaf, and false unicorn root. Listed at the bottom of the Paranil label are cellulose, magnesium stearate and silica.

    KleriTea Ingredients

    • KleriTea contains senna, uvi ursi and peppermint leaves; fennel and milk thistle seeds; chamomile; buckthorn and cinnamon barks; rose hip fruit and ginger root, as well as natural citrus flavor. The product's label advises that senna -- a naturally occurring stimulant laxative -- should not be used for long periods of time.
