Body Cleansing by Fasting
Many people are interested in body cleansing these days. One of the main ways they do this is through fasting. However, not all forms of fasting are created equal, and some even may be dangerous. That's why it's important to understand why people fast and how it can be done in a safe manner.-
Why Fast?
-
People who decide to go on a fast do so to give their digestive systems a break. By depriving the body of solid food, the digestive system is given time to recuperate from all the bad food you've eaten, and your body is allowed the time to purge itself of any toxins that have accumulated.
Water Fast vs. Juice Fast
-
When most people think of fasting, they imagine surviving off of only water for a week. And while this is one form of fasting, this isn't recommended because you're denying your body any and all nutrients for too long a period of time. That's why juice fasting is becoming more popular. Your digestive system is allowed to rest, but you still receive all the nutrients you need.
Who Should Fast?
-
Anyone can fast, really, but those with certain chronic conditions may benefit more than others. For instance, those with sinus congestion, bronchitis, back pain, indigestion, flatulence, acne, eczema, fatigue or constipation would likely notice an improvement in symptoms while on a fast. However, those with more serious conditions like heart disease or diabetes should not perform a fast without doctor supervision.
How to Fast
-
Fasting is not that difficult to do, but it does require discipline and a certain technique. A few days prior to your fast, you should eliminate red meats, dairy, eggs and other heavy foods from your diet. You should also add in raw vegetables and fruits wherever possible. Then, you will drink juice for breakfast and follow it with a vegetable or fruit. Do the same for lunch and just have juice for dinner. You'll repeat this for a few days, then switch over to just juices. Whenever you feel hungry, drink more juice. You should also be sure to drink plenty of water. When it's time to break the fast, you will need to reintroduce raw vegetables and fruits, then slowly incorporate regular foods. Typically, the goal is to transition to a healthier diet once your body is clear of toxins following a fast.
