Home Remedies for Cleaning Your Liver

Olive Oil and Lemon Juice
-
According to Paul Pitchford in his book "Healing With Whole Foods," supporting and cleansing the gallbladder is an important step in detoxifying the liver as it helps to clear the channels of liver waste removal. Olive oil and lemon juice are often used to help flush stones and impurities from the gallbladder. Over the span of five days, two tablespoons each of lemon juice and olive oil are taken once a day. Apples may also be eaten throughout the day to help soften gallbladder sediment. A gallbladder flush should only be done under the supervision of a health practitioner.
Vinegar
-
Unrefined vinegars, like apple-cider or brown-rice, help to detoxify the liver. They are very helpful in relieving liver stagnation, or poor energy flow through the liver. One teaspoon in a cup of water can help to improve problems like indigestion. Adding a teaspoon of honey helps to improve the taste and effects of vinegar on the liver. Although this is an effective home remedy, it is not advisable to use it as a permanent liver detoxifier.
Dandelion
-
Although this may not be common in all homes, many people use ground and roasted dandelion in their coffee and add the leaves to salads. Dandelion helps to move congestion out of the liver and increases bile flow. It also improves liver function by decreasing liver inflammation. Additionally, dandelion removes stored hormones from the liver and is a diuretic. For cleansing purposes, the root is often consumed as a tea several times a day.
Radishes and Rhubarb
-
Adding radishes and rhubarb to your diet is an easy way to cleanse the liver. Radishes reduce mucus and help to gradually remove sediment and stones in the gall bladder. Additionally, they help to relieve the burden of the liver when excessive amounts of meat are eaten. Rhubarb is especially powerful at cleansing the liver. It also contains laxative actions that may help those with constipation, a common symptom of an overworked liver. These items, including daikon radish, are available at most grocery stores and taste excellent in soups and stews.
