Risks of Kinoki Foot Pads
Kinoki Foot Pads are reported by TV infomercials to be an easy way of removing bodily toxins while you sleep. The manufacturer claims the pads clean out toxins from the lymphatic system, help with sleep and restore vitality. The pads, which cost less than $25, are marketed as an ancient Japanese reflexology technique. However convincing the product sounds, there are, however, many speculative reports doubting the pads' effectiveness.-
Investigative Reports
-
The biggest risk from Kinoki Foot Pads is their potential of being a scam and, therefore, a waste of money, according to several reports. An article posted by National Public Radio reports taking both unused and used pads to a laboratory for analysis. The foot pads that had been worn overnight, when they are supposed to be sucking toxins out of the body, had the same composition as the new, unused pads.
An investigation by ABC news used a lab to specifically test for heavy metals and different solvents on the pads to gauge the pad's effectiveness. None of the substances were found, and the pads were found to turn dark, not from any toxins, but from moisture of the feet. A drop of distilled water on the pad turned the pad the same dark color that was supposed to appear from the toxins, the report said.
The pads' claim to detoxify the body through the feet is not the way the body cleans itself, according to a Dr. Stephen Barrett at Device Watch.org. He said detoxification takes place in the liver, with unwanted materials passing through the kidneys into bloodstream and then washed out of the body through urination.
Placebo Effect
-
Another risk of Kinoki Foot Pads is their placebo effect, meaning that people who do have health issues, but are under the impression that the food pads are giving them a miracle cure, may not seek proper medical care, according to a report on ABC News. People expect the foot pads to work and may feel better, either by chance or because of their expectations. The reality is, however, the pad is not doing anything beneficial for their health.
User Reviews
-
After use, Kinoki Foot Pads are reported by consumers to stink. Several users, interviewed by ABC News, were disgusted by the morning results, comparing the stink from the pads to be akin to bacon or a barbecue pit. One consumer also noted that she woke up with a filmy texture on the bottom of her feet.
