How to Detox With Bentonite
You can detox with bentonite clay in 2 ways, taking the clay internally or soaking in a clay bath to cleanse the body of harmful toxins. There is no scientific evidence that clay or any clay-based detox program actually works. However, clay has been used for centuries to treat various medical conditions, according to The University of Arizona. Today, people are often exploring new ways to detox their bodies naturally. Using Bentonite internally for detox is not approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so you should always consult your doctor before using it.Things You'll Need
- Bentonite Clay Powder
- Large Plastic or Glass Container with Lid
- Sesame Oil (Optional)

Internal Detox
-
1
Buy bentonite clay powder online or at a local nutritional supplement retailer.
-
2
Fill an 8-ounce container with water or fruit juice.
-
3
Add one tablespoon of bentonite powder to the water or juice. Shake vigorously until all clumps are dispersed.
-
4
Drink the bentonite detox mixture right after mixing. If it stands for any period of time, you will notice a thick sludge of clay at the bottom which makes it much harder to consume and rather unpalatable. It's best taken on an empty stomach, drink it either one hour before or after meals. Bentonite clay does not have a very good flavor, so it may take a while to get used to it. If you have a hard time, try adding one tablespoon of honey.
-
5
Take the bentonite mixture once daily for three to four days, then increase to two times daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, for two weeks. If you are taking any type of medication, talk with your doctor first about bentonite and do not use it one to two hours before or after taking your medication.
Detox Bath
-
6
Mix two cups of bentonite clay powder with 10 cups of water in a large container or gallon jug. Shake well until the clay is completely wet and mud-like. Make sure all clumps are broken up. This is preferable than just adding the powder directly to the bathtub because the clay will often settle at the bottom, making it harder to disperse throughout the bath water.
-
7
Run hot bath water to your preferred temperature and add the bentonite mixture. Agitate the water with your hands to suspend the mixture in the bath.
-
8
Soak in the tub for 20 to 30 minutes. If the clay begins to settle, agitate the water to move the clay around a bit. Make sure most of your body is submerged in the water.
-
9
After bathing, shower the remaining clay from your body. Use sesame oil or another type of lightweight oil that allows your pores to breathe in order to counteract the drying effects of the clay. After the water drains, use paper towels or newspapers to clean the clay from the bottom of the tub.
