How to Cure Psoriasis With Fasting

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder for which there is no known cure. There are a variety of conventional treatments available to treat psoriasis, but traditional medicine treats the symptoms of psoriasis and doesn't address possible sources of the problem. Natural treatments may not have immediate results, but have the potential for longer lasting improvement. Fasting is one such natural method. Fasting helps to cleanse the body of toxins. Clearer skin results because the skin is one of the main ways the body excretes problematic substances. Fasting allows your body a break from the physical demands of digestion. While in this rest mode, your body can begin to heal itself internally.

Consult your physician before starting any type of fast. Some physicians aren't supportive of fasting. However, if you have no major health issues, fasting shouldn't present a health risk. Individuals who have diabetes, certain metabolic disorders, and kidney or heart problems shouldn't fast.

    • 2

Determine the duration of your fast. Start with a three-day fast if you've never fasted before. Some individuals might only be able to tolerate fasting for one day. Mark your calendar with the days you plan to fast.

    • 3

Decide between a juice and water fast. Try a juice fast if this is your first time fasting. Prepare fresh fruit in a juicer and drink immediately. Consume water throughout the day also. Water fasting typically produces better results but is more intense. Juice fasting is a bit easier for newcomers to follow.

    • 4

Choose organic fruit whenever possible for a juice fast. Wash conventional fruits thoroughly before juicing.

    • 5

Plan your fast during a time when you know your life won't require a lot of physical exertion. Avoid festive times of the year if you know fasting will be difficult.

    • 6

Incorporate regular fasting into your life. Try fasting for one day each week. If this isn't possible, try intermittent fasting. Stop eating at 6 p.m. one evening. By 6 a.m. you'll have completed a 12-hour fast, and about eight of those hours will have been spent sleeping. If you can tolerate it, continue until noon to complete an 18-hour fast.

    • 7

Be patient. The number of short-duration fasts that an individual will need to notice complete improvement will vary by person. Make note of any improvements in your psoriasis following each fast you complete. Increase the duration of your next fast or add more half-day fasts to your schedule. Consult your family physician, naturopathic doctor or dietitian if you need assistance with fasting.
