Talk to your doctor about whether you are healthy enough to perform a detox. While most people are, there are a few men and women who should not detox. Those who are pregnant, have a serious illness or disease, or suffer from anorexia or bulimia should not detox.

Choose a detox that is right for you. There are many to choose from, such as the lemonade detox. This involves fasting on lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper for three to 21 days. Other detoxes include a juice fast or a raw food diet. Some detoxes include pills which can help cleanse out the system through defecation.

Cut out as many bad habits as you can before starting your detox. This includes caffeine, nicotine, over- the-counter and prescription drugs, sugars, fats, and processed and junk foods. Getting these items out of your system a few days before the detox will help avoid shocking your system all at once.

Stock up on the items you need, and clean out everything that you do not need. If you frequently purge on potato chips and soda pop, get it out of your house. Keep plenty of your detox items around, such as fresh fruits and plenty of water. The less temptation you have, the better your detox will go.
