How to Make at Home Colon Cleansers & What to Use

Good colon health is essential for a happy, functioning body. Doing a colon cleanse is believed to improve digestion, aid weight loss, clear up acne, restore energy and improve general body function by ridding us of stored up toxins that we have accumulated over years of unhealthy eating and polluted environments. A mixture of Pysllium Husk Powder and Bentonite Clay is a popular and easy colon cleanser that anyone with access to a health food store can try at home.

  • -8 oz water or juice

      Mix one tablespoon each of psyllium husk powder and bentonite clay with at least 8 oz. of water or juice, and stir or shake until smooth. (see reference 1)

      Drink your P&B shake on an empty stomach and chase with another glass of water. You may also chase with an optional drink mixture of one tbsp. each of honey and apple cider vinegar to 10 oz of water. (See reference 2) Apple cider vinegar is a detoxification aid but you will do just fine if you forgo this step.

      Start off with one shake a day for at least three days and gradually work your way up to drinking your P&B three to five times a day. Recommended cleanse time is from two to four weeks or until you feel your body has been properly cleansed. (See references 1 and 3)

      Take a probiotic supplement along with your cleansing regimen about one hour after your last shake for the day. This is optional, but recommended as it will help you maintain the friendly bacteria in your digestive system that will otherwise be flushed out during the cleanse. (See references 1 and 3)

      Drink lots of water throughout each day. You need to stay hydrated. It is also a good idea to try and cut out caffeine while you're cleansing.
