Detox with Colon Cleansing Herbs

A detox with colon cleansing herbs is effective in removing built up waste from the intestines and colon for healthier living. Natural herbs are safe to use, and a colon cleanse should be done at least once a year to remove buildup. Keeping the colon clean will improve overall health and energy levels.
  1. Cathartic Herbs

    • Cathartic herbs work in the same fashion as laxatives, stimulating the intestines and colon to remove waste and toxins through bowel movements. Natural herbs are safe to use, and may be found at health food stores. Take the herb as directed, preferably at dinnertime. Start with one capsule a day, and increase by one capsule until bowel movements are frequent during the colon cleansing program.

Two cathartic herbs that are frequently used during a colon cleanse are cape aloe leaf and senna. Cape aloe leaf is related to the aloe vera plant, and its high fiber content helps to remove buildup from the colon and intestines. Senna is a popular colon cleansing herb, which stimulates the colon to remove waste.

    Absorbent Herbs

    • Other colon cleansing ingredients include absorbent herbs. These natural herbs draw out impurities from the colon and remove them through bowel movements. Absorbent herbs are also beneficial to reduce inflammation to the colon. Unlike cathartic herbs, these herbs must be had with an empty stomach. Absorbent herbs are more thorough in their cleaning of the intestine and colon walls, and may be done as often as necessary each day for sufficient cleaning.

Two popular choices of absorbent ingredients are activated charcoal and bentonite clay. The clay draws out toxins, waste and parasites from the intestine and colon walls, and is safe to use frequently throughout the day. Charcoal works similarly, in that it absorbs toxins from the intestines and cleanses the colon.

These ingredients must be consumed with juice or water to prevent constipation, since they absorb water in the intestines and colon. Mix one tablespoon of clay or charcoal with eight ounces of water, and drink. Consume an additional eight ounce glass of water to provide plenty of hydration to the body. Take supplements with an eight ounce glass of water, followed by an additional glass after each dosage.
